The Shingon Empire is a great naval power in the Shimmering Sea far to the east. Fore ages the Imperial Jade Throne has been protected by the great Tsunami Warriors, an elilte fighting order composed of fighters, samurai, monks and sorcerers. All of these warriors are pledged to the Emperor and sworn to give their life for him if need be. The island enjoys subtropical wet climate throughout the year with moderate to heavy precipitation. The central mountains tend to be somewhat cooler due to their elevation and it is not unheard of for it to actually snow on occasion in some of the more remote villages.

Even though the emperor is the head of state, he is not much more than a figurehead. The actual head of government are the powerful Shoguns, or military generals of the island nation. Each Shogun controls a separate province on the island and handles all affairs related to that region. They will gather on a regular basis in the Imperial Capital to discuss matters of mutual importance or to consult the emperor. This is actually done simply to give the government greater legitimacy in the eyes of the population.

The Imperial Family normally remains sequestered in the palace complex in the capital city of Akira. The shoguns each dwell in elaborate palaces and command a portion of the Imperial Army. They often compete with one another for prestige and position within the imperial household.
