Taurian

The race of Taurians are an ancient folk of humanoids resembling a cross bewteen a human and a cow or bull. Taurians will never refer to themselves as "minotaurs" despite the similarity in appearance. According to Taurian belief, the minotaur is a cursed form of the taurian that fell from grace ages ago and now lives as an outcast.

They are organized in a matriarchal system with the female cows holding positions of authority in government and religion. The male bulls serve the tribal herds as warriors and bodyguards and tend to be more aggressive than the females. In ancient days, the taurians served as assistants and confidantes to many of the great dragon nobles. They still share the dragon's traditional mountainous homelands.

Personality: Taurians are an aggressive and warlike species though the females are often more peaceful and pacifistic than the males. They tend to be strong-willed and very purposeful in their actions and manners. Taurians tend to "shoot from the hip" and can sometimes act first and ask questions later.

Physical Descriptions: Taurians are large, hulking creatures with horns, tails and cloven feet. The males, or bulls, will generally have larger horns than the female of the species. Taurians are covered with a course, brown hair all over their bodies. They have normal arms and hands allowing them to pick up objects. Males average about 6.5-7 feet in height and weigh 250-300 pounds. Females are only slightly smaller averaging 6-6.5 feet in height and weighing 200-250 pounds.

Relations: Taurians are somewhat of a reclusive people but are certainly not shy when it comes to dealing with other races. Because of the preference for mountainous habitats, taurians tend to deal more with races that share this environment. Taurians are on good terms with both dwarves and hill gnomes. They tolerate humans, elves and halflings. They tend to dislike half-orcs who often compete with the taurians for living space.

Alignment: Taurians have a strong tendency toward neutrality. They can also have lawful leanings and so lawful neutral is also not unheard of.

Habitats: Taurians are a mountainous race that dwell in temperate highlands. They can be found in mountain ranges throughout much of Hyerune but are more common in the Dragonspire Mountains of central Dawynia.

Religion: Taurians practice ancestor worship. However, many also revere a pacifist cow-goddess said to be one of the divine progeny of Jaro, the god of beasts.

Languages: Taurians speak their own racial language as well as Common. Some will also learn the Draconic tongue with Dwarven and Giant also being somewhat common.
