The ratlings are a race of rodent-like humanoids. They walk on two legs and have bodies similar to humans but have rat-like heads, tails and small, sharp claws like a rat. They are found most often in large urban areas and many make the dirty alleyways their home.
Personality: On average, ratlings are an untrustworthy folk. They tend to be quite aggressive, especially when cornered or dealing with other races. Most are known to be highly secretive, cunning and deceitful. Ratlings on average are a social creature and prefer to hang with others of their kind when possible. They chatter endlessly and are known for their love of gossip.
Physical Descriptions: Ratlings are about the same height as the average human yet tend to have slimmer and more agile builds. They have rat-like heads with narrow snouts, wiskers, beady dark eyes and they have long, thin tails. Their hands are similar to humans allowing them to grip objects but they also possess sharp claws. Ratlings are covered with a thin layer of course fur colored in shades of brown, black or dark gray. A very rare few are known albinos with white fur and dark, pink eyes.
Relations: Due to their highly suspicious and deceitful natures, ratlings generally do not get along well with other species though they occasionally with ally themselves with wererats or fleetfoot halflings from time to time. Ratlings also can develop a relation with half-orcs who sometimes share positions on the fringe of society. They tolerate humans and gnomes and dislike elves and dwarves.
Alignment: Ratlings are usually neutral in their outlook with many following the path of true neutrality. They also have a tendency toward chaos or evil and therefore chaotic neutrals, chaotic evils and neutral evils are also not uncommon. A rare few can be chaotic good or neutral good but lawfulness is practically unheard of within ratling society.
Habitats: Ratlings live in many climates throughout Hyerune but generally prefer large, crowded urban areas in temperate or sub-tropical climates. Ratlings are quite accustomed to the smells and noises of the city and are quite comfortable in underground sewerways and allies.
Religion: Most ratlings are not overtly religious by nature though some are drawn to their disease goddess Sursi, the patroness of alleys. Some ratlings may also pay homage to the various thieving deities such as Nim or even Nidwyn. Some have also been known to worship Jaro, the Lord of Beasts.
Languages: Ratlings speak their own bestial language as well as the Common tongue. Some may also pick up the Halfling or Orc tongue.
