Although the name sounds like a haven of peace and tranquility, nothing could be further from the truth. The region known as the Moon Vale is the ancestral home of the vile ogres and their ogre mage rulers. Nestled along the southeastern foothills of the Dragonspire Mountains, this somewhat desolate valley is controlled by the ogre magi as they have for many centuries.

The climate in this region tends to be hot and dry during the summer months and wet during the winter in the form of heavy seasonal rains. The land itself is very rocky and thus not conducive to extensive farming. Some of the more southern tribes force their slave labor to maintain step farms but much of the food comes from hunting and herding. The land is well known for the 'moon cows,' a rare breed of cattle unique to this region and said to have been genetically bred by the ogre magi lords.

Moon Vale lacks any true towns and cities and is dotted with multiple strongholds across the countryside. Each stronghold is controlled by a troop of Ogre Magi and their ogre followers slaves. In addition, the citadels are home to many humans and humanoids some of which are allies to the ogres though most are enslaved. The lands of Kaishu and Bengalia have always given this accursed vale a wide berth whenever possible. The Ogre magi though fiercely competitive with one another have been known to unite into a sizable military force when needed in order to repel any outside threat. The dragons of the nearby mountains likewise tend to ignore the valley since ogre flesh tends to be full of gristle and bone and not to the dragon's liking.

The Moon Vale is also home to a number of semi-independent orc and evil human forts that exist in more remote areas. The Ogre Mage are content in spending their time acquiring as much wealth as possible and are in fact quite lazy. Slaves are often used as a form of currency and a good slave is a highly valued commodity.
