The faerie guardians are a specialized offshoot of the faerie race and are often recruited by mortal beings at the time of a special birth, christening or naming ceremony. The parents of the child will invoke the faerie folk and ask for blessings upon their child. In cases where the parents are powerful royals or some force for good, a faerie guardian will sometimes be assigned to the child for guidance and protection.
These faerie guardians will serve their charge as a tutor, protector, advisor and godparent though they are forbidden to force a mortal creature to make any kind of action. Rather, the faerie guardian may influence or suggest to their charge but once the charge has made a decision, the choice must be abided. In this way the faerie guardians respect the notion of "free will" and allow their charges to fulfill their own destiny. A faerie guardian will remain with a charge until the charge reaches an age of majority though some of these fey never truly leave a mortal's life and remain within earshot.
The faerie guardian appears as a miniature human wearing silk robes and with delicate gossamer wings. They stand at about 1 or 2 feet in height and weigh only a few pounds at the most. They can use their enlarge person and disguise self ability to appear as a normal size humanoid if they so desire or to move among mortal folk without attracting attention to themselves. They may be either male or female though females certainly seem to be the more common.
Faerie guardians will never engage in physical combat, preferring instead to cast spells or simply become invisible and fly away. They are armed with a simple dagger for defense but will rarely use such a weapon. Their damage reduction and innate spell resistance helps protect them from harm. Most of a faerie guardian's magical abilities are purely defensive in nature or are to be used in the performance of their duties.
Faerie guardians are very rare but are somewhat known thoughout many of the Aldarian lands but have also been known to dwell with the Jendi and Huan people.
