Yordic's Weeping Mandolin

Widely attributed to the most well known skald of Njordlin, the Weeping Mandolin has a history steeped in sorrow. Yordic was arguably the most beloved bard of the Northern Kingdoms. His adventures and escapades were well documented through story and song over an open campfire or in the royal halls throughout the Filani lands. He was a trusted and loyal companion to the young King Kerik Brightblade of Njordlin for many years and fought beside the king in many battles. Yordic used his magic to inspire the royal armies during combat against the giants of the Jotunheims during the early 8th century of the New Age.

When it finally came time of the young king to marry, he could not have chosen a more beautiful bride. Princess Naoise, daughter of the Duke of Balanor, was as graceful as she was lovely. The match was ill-fated however because the princess became greatly enamoured by the dashing court bard. Yordic also could not keep his eyes off the new queen. He composed many a ballad in honor of Queen Naoise and where his words would go his heart soon followed. The two young lovers tried to be discreet but their innocent flirtations soon led to an illicit affair while the king was away at war.

When news of this betrayal fell on the king's ears, he was greatly distraught. His grief clouded his judgement and he was slain on the battlefield during the Second Giant War. When word of the young king's demise reached the royal castle, Yordic was overwhelmed with guilt and fled into the countryside abandoning his love. It was during this exile that the bard crafted his most prized instrument, the legendary Weeping Mandolin into which he poured all of his misery and saddness.

The Weeping Mandolin is a beautifully crafted musical instrument made of the finest cherry wood. The strings are said to have been made from silver threads and the finger board is encrusted with white and blue gems. The face of the mandolin is enlaid with precious ivory enamel forming graceful symmetrical designs.

Yordic's Weeping Mandolin possesses the following powers:
