These potent devices were crafted by the foul priests of Mordagh in the Undertemples of Sundell, capital city of the Kingdom of Galiwyn. It was believed that initially there were only 12 such amulets created, one for each of the 12 High Priests of the Dreadmother within the city. Since then, the secret to the item's manufacture has been acquired by a number of other evil causes and now the Darkheart Amulet is a bit more common.

The Darkheart Amulet is a piece of magical jewelry shaped like a pear made of beaten gold and suspended on a cord of black silk entwined with golden threads. In the center of the amulet is a marquise-cut amethyst gemstone. It is also quite common for the crafter of the amulet to suspend within the stone the unholy symbol of one of the evil deities of Hyerune, usually a bronze face mask (the symbol of Mordagh).

When worn around the neck, the Darkheart Amulet grants the following abilities:

• Wearer protected by a continuous protection from good effect (self only). This effect can not be dispelled but can be temporarily suspended by an antimagic field or a disjunction.
• Spell-Like Abilities (Sp):- Twice/day- doom, desecrate. Caster level 5th. Save DC=14 + spell level.
