A wizard has many choices when it comes to magical training on Hyerune. There are a number of prominent institutions of higher learning throughout the globe. Many of these schools are open for general study and practice of the arcane arts. However, there are an increasing number of schools being established that focus on specific aspects of magic.
These magical schools are open for any novice or practitioner of the arcane arts to undergo training, study, research and peer review. Each school is a self-contained academy and completely independent of the others.
Imperial College of Magecraft
Head Master: Chancellor Kaelwyn (N male human, Wiz 15)
Location: Primus, Imperial Capital of Meridia

Magical Focus: General Study
The College of Magecraft is an officially sanctioned school within the Empire of Meridia. It holds an imperial charter testifying to this fact yet is open to mages from throughout Hyerune. The College was founded during the earlier days of the Empire and has trained many from the Imperial Family over the years. The Emperor himself is said to be a major patron and supporter of the College.
Eldritch Academy
Head Master: Magistrate Velda Silvermane (LN female human, Wiz 10/Lor 4)
Location: Tanis, capital city of the Brynthian Empire

Magical Focus: General study and Divination
Generally recognized as the oldest school of wizardry on Hyerune, the Eldritch Academy has a reputation for its dedication to the strict discipline of magic. All of the Academicians and most of the student body are of lawful alignment. The Academy has one of the most impressive research libraries in Hyerune and is known to attract wizards who specialize in the magic of Divination.
School of the Arcane

Location: Free City of Arcania, the City of the Magi

Magical Focus: General Study
One of the most prestigious institutions of magic in northern Aldaria, the School of the Arcane has trained some of the most proficient wizards and archmagi over the years. It receives generous funding from the Council of Magi that govern the city in which the School is located. There is great rivalry between the School of the Arcane and the Imperial College of Magecraft in Primus.
Sorcerous Society

Magical Focus: Research and Alchemy
Although not actually a school, the Sorcerous Society is an organization of advanced learning devoted to the sorcerous arts. It boasts one of the largest memberships in Hyerune and includes members from nations across the globe. The headquarters of the Society in Lamprey City maintain an extensive research library and alchemical lab. The Society also supports in onsite Monster Menagerie where various magical beasts are contained for purposes of study.
Veiled Academy
Head Master: Olathar Skywhisper (LN male human, Wiz 17 [illusionist])

Magical Focus: Illusions
The Veiled Academy is a secretive school dedicated to the arts of illusion and phantasm. It trains wizards who wish to specialize in the School of Illusion and is one of the most prestigious schools of its kind. The Academy is responsible for training some of the greatest illusionists of Hyerune including Rhineglade, a member of the Indigo Order. Its exact location is kept hidden and can only be found by newcomers through the intercessation of a former student.
College of the Disciplined Mind
Head Master: Shevain Anorson (N male human, Psion 18)
Location: Balderis, capital of Njordlin

Magical Focus: Psionics
The College of the Disciplined Mind is dedicated to the Invisible Art of Psionics. It is one of the few institutions of its kind located anywhere in Hyerune and is known to have trained some of the more skilled members of the Celestial Knights, psionic warriors devoted to protected the Emperor of Meridia.
Elemental Academy

Magical Focus: Elementalism
A speciality school dedicated to the study and magical manipulation of the four ancient elements of air, earth, fire and water. The Academy is said to be affiliated with a number of the various genie races and several of the master instructors at the Academy are known to be powerful conjurers of the elementals. Some rivalry exists between the four separate major fields of study though this is generally kept to a minimum by the faculty.
Earthlore Academy

Magical Focus: Earth Elementalism
Even more specialized than the Elemental Academy of Shafaria is the Earthlore Academy which focus purely on earth magics. Not surprising, many of its students have been dwarven and gnome wizards though any wizard interested in the earth element is welcome. The structure itself is made from stone manipulated by powerful magic and is said to be guarded by a number of earth creatures. The Academy is the definitive source for information on the Elemental Plane of Earth and also includes a number of rare volumes on the underworld region of Darkhold.
