The Bleeding Spear

This fearsome weapon is said to have been enchanted by Golnauk of the Claw, the legendary orcish wizard from the Shadow Mountains. It was believed to have been originally crafted as tribute to the orc-king of that time but never made it to the king's armory. Shortly after its forging, the Bleeding Spear was stolen by the villianous Harshat, an orc-prince of Olgloth, and his band of rogues. The dark prince used the artifact to further his claim of domination over the Olgloth lands and to deadly effect. Many of Harshat's enemies were quickly decimated or even impaled upon the spear itself. Eventually, the Bleeding Spear was stolen once more sometime in the late 7th century of the New Age. Its current whereabouts are unknown but it is rumored to be part of the horde of Druthgarza, the ancient red dragon of the Shadow Mountains.

The Bleeding Spear is 7½ feet in length with a pole made from ash wood and a mithral tip. The pole is engraved with a number of orcish blood runes and elvish curses and feels cool to the touch. The end of the handle is capped with a jeweled finial of polished bloodstone. The polearm near the spearhead is wrapped with strips of tattered cloth dyed the color of the deepest crimson that flap in the breeze. The Bleeding Spear is said to possess the following abilities:

• It is a +5 longspear
• It has the extra abilities of wounding and unholy
• It functions as a rod of enemy detection but with unlimited charges. This function of the Bleeding Spear can be used 6/day.
• The wielder of the spear gains the bonus feat of Uncanny Dodge as long as the spear is held
• The wielder of the spear gains a +10 Strength bonus for a long as the spear is held
• Spell-Like Ability: 6/day- charm person. The caster level of this power is at 16th level with a DC=15. The save DC is Charisma based.

Side Effects: The Bleeding Spear has two main side effects. First, the wielder of the artifact will start to become more hostile as soon as the weapon is touched and suffers a -2 Charisma penalty on all ability checks. Second, after possessing the artifact for 60 days, the owner of the Bleeding Spear will develop a form of megalomania. The wielder will have a sense of superiority and think that only their opinion is all that matters. This form of psychosis can only be cured by destroying the artifact and then receiving a remove curse and atonement from a cleric of at least 16th level.

Suggested Means of Destruction: Shatter the spear upon the roots of the Tree of Life. Dip the spear into blinding Pools of Enchantment within the godly realm of Fairiel, the elven fertility goddess.
