Wall of Solitude

The Imperial lands of Kaishu in the slumbering, mist-filled valleys of the southeastern portion of the Darwynian continent have always been a place of tranquility and order. Unfortunately for the Huanese of Kaishu, many of their neighbors from the surrounding kingdoms are not as law abiding. Although the Ogre Magi of the Moon Vale in the West have always been a continual thorn in the side of the Prefects of the Southern Provinces, it is from the North that most of the aggression stems.

The great ridge known as the Ash Mountains that form the northern boundary of the Imperium had once been enough to inhibit the raids of the northern barbarian hordes but as their ambition and population grew, so too did their aggression and desire to pluder the rich and fertile lands of Kaishu. The number of raids and full-on assaults seem to have only increased and the wise Sage-Emperors of Kaishu have looked for ways to stem this direct threat to the peace of the lands. The answer was simple- construct a barrier so vast and impregnable that the barbarians would have no choice but to return from whence they came. And so the Imperial Corps of Engineers from the Emperor's own household began the impressive task of laying out this architectual wonder.

The Wall of Solitude is a work in progress. It began three centuries ago by the current Sage-Emperor's great-great-great-great-great grandfather and has been continued ever since. The wall as it currently stands is roughly one thousand miles from east to west, running just North of the provincial capital of Manshan north of the Jumra River. The wall is made from local stone quarried from the nearby foothills and carted to the site by tens of thousands of slaves and conscripted craftsmen. The wall is 30 feet in height and almost 20 feet thick in some locations with a square tower every five hundred feet or so. The towers stand 50 feet in height and provide an excellent lookout for posted guards and sentries. Each tower also maintains a signal fire to alert the remaining sentries along the length of the wall in the event of an attack. Members of the Imperial Guild of Sorcery have further strengthened the towers and wall with strategically placed magical wards and sigils to increase the wall's structural integrity and repel attacks from the north.

Although the wall has not completely halted the attacks from the Horde Raiders of the north, it has served to greatly limit the number and effectiveness of each assault. Currently, the Great Khan of the Horde has been focusing on launching more detailed surgical strikes against the wall in an attempt to test out its strengths and weaknesses. All attacks have been successfully repelled by the Imperial Army stationed at Manshan and at the outposts along the southern perimeter of the wall.

The current Sage-Emperor greatly desires to eventually extend the Wall of Solitude along the northwestern frontiers along the deserts of the Scorched Lands in order to defend against the creatures that inhabit that wasteland. He also wishes to establish a series of waystations along the new sections of the wall in the northwest to serve the trade routes comings in and out of Kaishu from the Brynthians in the northwest and the dwarves of Craghold.
