Ages ago, the desert lands of eastern Sahelia were ruled over by a dreadful creature from the lower planes, a powerful wind demon known as Untammo. This being was responsible for the loss of much life and continually tormented the Zentradi nomads of the Dune Sea.
It was prophesized however that the demon's reign would be short lived for from the ranks of his enslaved subjects would rise a challenger to his position. This was the legendary wizard Oloron of the Seven Deserts. Untammo heard of this prophecy and in his arrogance sought to challenge the wizard directly in a titanic battle that sent tremors across the landscape. In the end, Oloron proved the more worthy opponent as he defeated the demon tyrant.
Oloron was also a shrewd and calculating mage since he knew that Untammo could never be permanently slain since he was in fact a creature not of this world but from the turbulent skies of the Plane of Infernia, the Realm of Demons. Therefore the mage sought to curse Untammo that would put an end to this demonic threat for all time without actually killing the creature. Oloron separated the demon's essence from its body and cast it into a passing wind where it would exist trapped for all eternity as a simple desert storm.
The desert mage is now but a legend to the nomads of the Dune Sea but the Demon Storm rages on. Centuries of living in this disembodied state has driven the creature mad and now it enjoys the havok it can create as it blows across the Dune Sea unsettling small encampments, causing sand blindness and forcing travellers to lose their way. The demon Untammo no longer possesses a physical form and therefore can not affect the Material Plane as he once did. However, the power of this storm is tied to his emotional state which is in an almost constant state of anger and hostility. Untammo is now limited to affecting atmospheric conditions within the boundaries of the storm. He can cause swirling winds to whip up a frenzy and kick up abrasive sand and rubble.
The Demon Storm is practically invisible for the most part and since it is incorporeal it is completely unaffected by physical weaponry and most spells. A control winds and control weather spell will simply cause it to change directions though this usually proves effective enough. A simple magic circle against evil also seems to keep the wind spirit at bay.
Untammo can move at a Fly speed of 120 feet. He is considered a Colossal creature occupying a roughly circular space with a 70 foot diameter and a height varying between 30 to 50 feet. This space of course is not solid mass but rather air volume. Untammo can affect the strength of its winds from a "strong wind" to the force of a "windstorm" or even hurricane force winds." (See the entry for the control winds spell in the Player's Handbook for details.) Fortunately, the Demon Storm can not maintain a powerful wind speed for very long as this saps his energy and forces him to dissipate for a time. He can not communicate with other beings since he is pure sentience but with no standard senses.
