Soulchorus

Filani Mythology describes the 'Soulchorus' as a heavenly body of the souls of good-aligned bards dwelling in the Hallowed Halls of the Plane of Spectral Vale. They are all petitioners of the goddess Ostra, the Soulsinger and deity of music and song.

Like an angelic choir, the Soulchorus blends its voices in perfect harmony to lend support and morale to its fighting comrades-in-arms in their battles against giants, ogres, trolls and whatever other forces may happen to threaten their realm. Bardic souls in the chorus appear as semi-translucent, ethereal figures with the same general shape and size that they had in their mortal lives. They appear to be armed with long gleaming swords while some also carry banners or trumpets and other musical instruments.

The Soulchorus is led by powerful trumpet archons and commanded by a high-ranking angelic power possibly a solar or planetar in the service of Ostra. When the members of the Soulchorus are united as one voice, their songs and musical rhythms are said to be able to produce potent magical effects of various sorts. The members are also proficient warriors should such a need arise. Stories abound in many myths of the northern reaches of Hyerune of lone mortals on the brink of death claiming to have seen visions of this indescribably beautiful choir streaking across the skies.

Combat and battle prowess have always been a focal point in Filani culture. The Filani view the afterlife as a continuation of this lifestyle. Warriors, according to mythology, join the collection of fighters gathered in the great mead halls of Galdor, the god of battle, and carry out the duties according to their patron's desire. The Soulchorus serves as an auxilliary branch of this spectral army of heavenly hosts.

The goddess Ostra will sometimes use high ranking members of her Soulchorus to serve as messengers or emissaries and appear before her mortal worshipers. Messages are often delivered through the use of divine songs or poems spoken to priests and prophets which are in turn delivered to the faithful.
