Though certainly not widely known in more rural areas of the world, it is generally understood in some regions that there exist a number of institutions throughout Hyerune dedicated to the sole purpose of the education and advancement of arcane spellcasters. Scattered across multiple continents, each school is a self-contained academy and completely independent of the others. A number of them are also geared to specific specialities such as illusion or elementalism.

The list that follows is believed to not be entirely inclusive. Many arcane scholars tend to agree in the notion that there may be a number of additional academies so secretive as to remain completely hidden even from the majority of the magical community.

Imperial College of Magecraft
Head Master: Chancellor Kaelwyn (N male human, Wiz 15)
Location: Primus, Imperial Capital of the Meridian Empire

The College of Magecraft is an officially sanctioned school within the Empire of Meridia and holds an imperial charter testifying to this fact. Perhaps one of the more famous of magical schools, the Imperial College was founded during the earliest ages of the Empire and has trained many wizards from the Imperial Family over the years. It accepts both wizards and sorcerers for the study of general arcane knowledge.

Eldritch Academy
Head Master: Magistrate Velda Silvermane (LN female human, Wiz 10/Lor 4)

Generally recognized as the oldest wizarding school on Hyerune, the Eldritch Academy has a reputation for its dedication to the strict discipline of magic. All of the Academicians and most of the student body are of lawful alignment and therefore few sorcerers find this school to their liking. Some more liberal thinkers might even argue that the school tends toward oppression to some degree given its strict adherence to spellcasting method.

School of the Arcane
Head Master: Marilyn Magefire (CG female human, Wiz 13/Acm 2)
Location: Free City of Arcania, the City of the Magi
Student Body: 374

One of the more prestigious institutions in northern Aldaria, the School of the Arcane has trained some of the most proficient wizards and archmagi over the years since its founding. The school receives funding from the Council of Magi that govern the city where it is located.

Sorcerous Society
President: Danthor Moonchaser (CN male human, Sor 15)
Location: Lamprey City, the Floating Kingdoms

Not actually a "school" per se, the Sorcerous Society is an organization devoted to the sorcerous arts and the more innate forms of arcana rather than strict study. The Society boots one of the largest memberships in Hyerune and includes members from nations throughout most of the globe. A number of the Sorcerous-Queens of the Floating Kingdoms are believed to be members in good standing. The headquarters of the Society located in Lamprey City maintains an extensive research library as well as alchemical facilities.

Veiled Academy

The Veiled Academy is a secretive school dedicated to the arts of illusion and phantasms. The school trains wizards who wish to specialize in the School of Illusion and it is believed that most Illusionists of Hyerune have spent at least part of their training at the Veiled Academy. The schools exact location is unknown for it is said to be cloaked in illusions and potent spells of invisibility rendering it unseen to the naked eye. It is said that new incoming students are made aware of its location and how to find it through magical dreams.

College of the Disciplined Mind
Head Master: Laird Kustav the Unfaltered (N male human, Psion 16)
Location: Balderis, Capital City of Njordlin

Location in the far northern Kingdom of Njordlin, the College of the Disciplined Mind is dedicated to the 'Invisible Art,' otherwise known as the science of Psionics. Though some argue that psionic talents are not true magic, the fact that the school includes course work in telepathy and telekinesis warrants its inclusion. It is one of the few institutions of its kind anywhere in Hyerune as Psionic talents are not widely acknowledged and somewhat rare. The Church of Hrungnir is said to finance a number of its programs.

Elemental Academy
Head Master: The Four Masters
Location: Shalizan, Capital City of Shafaria
Student Body: 278

One of the more specialized magical institutions of Hyerune, the Elemental Academy is dedicated to the pure study of the four ancient elements of air, earth, fire and water. The school is said to be affiliated with a number of the various genie races and is under the jurisdiction of not one head master but rather four, each a specialist in one of the four elements. Each discipline is quartered off in a separate part of the Academy and the four branches do not generally interact with the others save for once a year during a monumental contest among the students.

Earthlore Academy
Head Master: Renaulf Steelshield (LG male brown dwarf, Ftr 2/Wiz 13 [earth elementalist])
Location: Anchorwell, Capital City of Coronar

One of the smaller magical schools, the Earthlore Academy is an institution similar in nature to the Elemental Academy except that it only studies the magic of Earth Elementalism. Founded several centuries ago by a cabel of earth elementalists, the school carries on the tradition of earth magic. Students at the Academy are exposed to many aspects of earth-related magic and do not always specialize in elemental magic since a number of transmuters also attend the Academy.
