Recall that in many of your favorite fairy tales, the heroine and sometimes even the hero would turn to their fairy godmother for aid and assistance. A similar being exists in the World of Hyerune coming to the help of only the most select of characters granting both magic and wisdom.
The Faerie Guardians are a specialized offshoot of the Fae Folk and are often recruited by mortal beings at the time of birth or during a christianing or naming ceremony. The parents of this special child will invoke the faerie folk and ask for blessings upon their child. In cases where the parents are powerful royals or other such political figures, a faerie guardian will sometimes be assigned to the child for guidance and protection. The Faerie Guardians are under the jurisdiction of the Seelie Court.
The Faerie Guardians serve as tutors, protectors, advisors and godparents as the case may be, though they are forbidden to force a mortal creature into any kind of action. Rather, the faerie guardian may influence or advise their charge but once the charge has made a decision, it must be respected. In this way, the faerie guardians respect the notion of "free will" and allow their charges to find and fulfill their own destinies. A faerie guardian will remain with a charge until the charge reaches his or her age of majority though some guardians are never truly out of the picture and remain involved in mortal lives throughout adulthood.
Faerie Guardians are weak fighters with most having no attack capabilities at all save for their magical abilities. These fae creatures possess many arcane and divine spell-like abilities but few have any offensive magic. Most innate spells are used to inspire or protect their charges rather than fight a battle for them.
Faerie Guardians appear as diminuative humanoid creatures about 1 foot tall with delicate gossamer wings. They can fly and may also change their size and appearance using their spell-like abilities to appear as a normal human or humanoid creature. Most faerie guardians are female though a few males have also been known to exist. Faerie Guardians are able to become invisible at will.
The Faerie Guardians are indeed very rare but are known throughout many of the lands dominated by the Aldari, Jendi and Huanese humans.
