The Tale of Years

Sages and scholars across Hyerune tend to follow a common system of categorizing historical information. The most widely used reckoning is the Imperial Calendar of Meridia and most nations have adapted its use. Historical periods are currently lumped into three main epochs, or ages. These being:

The Dim Time: This epoch covers most of pre-history and much of it occured before written languages were even developed. This age includes the creation myths, the appearances of the dragons and the many lesser races of demi-humans and humanoids which occured toward the end of the age. It is a time of legends and myths and perhaps little historical accuracy.

The Draconic Age: This epoch covers the great time period that includes the ascension of the race of dragons and their rapid increase in power and influence. The earlier portion of the age is generally regarded as a pleasant time period as the lesser races began to slowly gather into tribal communities and small villages began to form. The dragons during this early period had not yet fallen under the influence of Mordagh and were regarded as great scholars and tutors. It was toward the middle portion of the age that the corruption of the dragons began and the first humans appeared.

Toward the waning of the Draconic Age, humanity began to grow in power and several of the most ancient of human lands were well established. Possibly the greatest included the Huan-ce of the Dawynian continent far to the East. Their dabbling in forbidden sorceries and the creation of the fabled artifact known as the Sacred Scepter are well documented in numerous scrolls and archives.

The Draconic Age ended with the Great Revolt of the Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes and Halflings and the retreat of the surviving dragons and evil humanoids. This retreat signaled the start of the "modern" age.

The New Age: This epoch is also commonly referred to as the Age of Dawning since it is equated with the rising of the new age of humanity. The Following is a brief synapsis:
