Founded over 1000 years ago during the massive human migrations across the continent of Sahelia, the elven city known as the 'Hidden Vale' is arguably the greatest of all elven cities on Hyerune and has served as a retreat and refuge of the fair elves for generations. The city is located somewhere between the Ajanta and Sahelian Mountains in a hidden valley removed from the outside world. The city is said to be cloaked under a shield of invisibility and nondetection that also serves as the city's primary source of defense. Many elves throughout the world know of this land but few know its actual location save for those that actually dwell here and the select few that are trusted by the royal court of Glyndamir.
Ancient wars between the various human lands as well as the influx of evil humanoids in Angharad drove the elves into seclusion where they could live in peace. A number of minor human and gnomish outposts are also said to exist near the city proper. These small communities swear loyalty to the elven king and serve as waystations and outposts for watcher folk and guards.
Glyndamir is known to be a haven for many powerful elven wizards, sorcerers and clergy of numerous faiths (most being elven of course). All assist in the city's defense should the need arise but spend much of their time delving in research and meditations. The Elf-king is himself an accomplished wizard said to possess a minor artifact known as the Globe of All-seeing. This legendary device is believed to have the powers of a crystal ball with clairaudiance and is also thought to be connected somehow with the cloaking shield that surrounds the city.
Glyndamir itself was originally a simple network of lofty stone spires that have now been built up and expanded through the centuries of elvish craft and skill to include graceful structures and parapets carved from glass and steel. The entire city is said to have been constructed over an infrastructure that taps into a volcanic chamber miles below the surface which provides power to the city.
