Galorand is an island kingdom southeast of Pelinore across the Calerion Straight. The kingdom has a fierce spirit of independence and is well known for its great variety of populations and cultures. Some call it the "adventurer's dream" since it also includes a variety of environments as well as numerous creatures such as giants, ogres, demons, werewolves, witches, fae and trolls. The island enjoys seasonal temperatures throughout most of the year with moderately warm summers and mild, cool winters.
Politically, there is a great rivalry between Galorand and Pelinore and the two nations constantly try to outdo one another. Several major wars have been fought, at both land and sea, over the centuries, but the spoils of war rarely seem to last very long. In any case, many of the major cities of Galorand are well fortified communities. The greatest of these is of course the capital city of Havenfair. A thickly walled citadel along the picturesque Andurine River valley. The river itself is a popular retreat for many of the local citizenry and is itself a subject of many local legends.
Young King Eadric inherited the throne shortly after the sad passing of his beloved father. His father's second wife, the Queen Mother Bardha, tried unsuccessfully to userp the throne as regent but was driven from the capital and banished to a remote province in the north of the island. The King now courts the fair Princess Auryn, a major threat to Bardha especially if the two should ever marry and produce an heir.
