Following a brief period of civil war, the fledgling Kingdom of Galiwyn split from its sister state of Dunwyn more than 300 years ago following the death of the childress King of Galidun. Relations between the two sister kingdoms have since resumed but Galiwyn maintains a very independent spirit. The folk of this realm are hospitable and open-minded. It is a land that values individual freedoms very highly. This freedom, however, also has a dark side since evil has been given a foothold on a number of occasions. The capital city of Sundell in particular is known for its powerful thieving guild and a number of underground cults dedicated to evil deities.

The king of the land is more of a national figurehead than anything else with very little political power, especially outside the capital city. Most of the authority of the realm belongs to individual clans and communities. This spirit of freedom did not come at a low price however. A number of revolts known as the "Peasant Wars" forced the kings of the realm to concede more control to the local officials as a means to combat rife corruption at the national level. Many commoners were killed in these revolts and the peasants honor a number of national holidays devoted to the glorious dead.

Rumors:A local figure of some reknown is known as the Rogue-Lord. This figure controls the powerful Thieve's Guild of Sundell and has his hand in a number of lucrative, though highly illegal, ventures. An infamous temple dedicated to Dreadmother Mordagh, goddess of evil, is likewise said to be hidden somewhere in the belly of the city of Sundell. The affairs of the temple are believed to be coordinated by no less than 13 ranking clerics.
