Jerant Warblade was the youngest son of one of the most powerful warlords of the region of Hyerune known as the 'Border Isles,' a minor fief territory of the Brynthian Empire. Jerant was always a powerful man physically with a strong body and an even stronger personality. His willfulness often got the young prince into trouble as a child and he was seen as somewhat of a playboy. His father never expected much from his youngest son and often ignored him during most of Jerant's upbringing.
Jerant was trained in the ways of the warrior including the art of combat and warcraft as are all members of the noble House of Warblade. Yet Jerant longed for the freedom of adventure and a chance to escape the duties typical for a son of a reigning landholder of the Border Isles.
It would appear that Jerant's fate would take a dramatic turn when both his father and elder brother were slain during a pirate raid leaving the young Prince Jerant the sole heir to his father's title and estates. Jerant, however blessed with physical strength and appearance, was somewhat lacking in mental discipline and the ability to bring order to his newly acquired holdings. He chose to leave the day-to-day operations in the hands of underlings while he led his forces into combat whenever possible.
It was during one of these excursions that Prince Jerant met the being that would forever change his life- the dreaded vampire Ghazalim. The prince faced off against the vampire, a scourge that had plagued the Border Isles for a number of years, but was soundly defeated and subsequently drained of his life energy only to rise again as a vampire himself. When Ghazalim was eventually destroyed by powerful clerics and paladins from Brynthia, Jerant became a free-willed vampire but hides this secret of undead status from all but his most trusted advisors and servants.
Jerant continues to rule over his lands with an iron first. His principality is dark, troubled and oppressive yet also quite prosperous. Jerant prefers to remain secluded in his stronghold allowing his servants and aids to act as his emissaries when necessary.
