Reference Section

This page includes some of my favorite references. Many of these are available at your local library. You might also find them available as an electronic version somewhere on the internet if you look hard enough. Of course, if you have the finances, you can also buy a copy for yourself through your favorite bookseller or through eBay. If you have any questions about any of these resources, just send me an email to trinian@sbcglobal.net and I will be happy to help you!

Folklore, Myths and Legends of Britain. Published by Reader's Digest Assoc. This is an excellent reference for those who love British folk tales (and who doesn't?) This is out-of-print but can still be found in some book finding sites. I recommend abebooks.com because that is how I got mine. Some larger libraries also will often have a copy. Just LOADED with adventure ideas!

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Arthurian Legends. Published by Element Books, Ltd. This is a wonderful source of information on King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. The book is filled with amazing illustrations and is organized like an encyclopedia in alphabetical format for ease of use.

World Mythology. Published by Henry Holt & Co. If you like mythology as much as I do, you will definitely want to get your hands on this book. It includes myths from all over the world and not just the standard Celtic/Norse/Greek/Egyptian standards. This book also includes information on Japan, Tibet, China, Australia, Oceania, South America, Africa, Arctic Regions and India.

Expanded Psionics Handbook. Published by Wizards of the Coast. An excellent resource if you want to include "psionics" or the powers of the mind into your compaign.

Oriental Adventures. Published by Wizards of the Coast. Pretty much a "must-have" if you want to include an Asian-style theme into your campaign. Since southeastern Hyerune is similar to Asia, I snatched this right up to get inspiration.

Daily Life in Medieval Times. Published by Black Dog & Levanthal. This source is actually a combination of three books previously published separately and now found in one great reference. If you want to learn anything about how life was like in Medieval towns and cities, this would be a great reference for you! Really helps if you want more of an "authentic" feel to your campaign.

The Medieval Fortress. Published by Combined Publishing. This is without a doubt one of the best resources for all you castle lovers out there. It has excellent illustrations and maps of both castles AND fortified cities.

Vikings- The North Atlantic Saga. Published by Smithsonian Institution Press. If you like Vikings, you'll love this book. It has some of the best images, drawings and maps on the subject I have ever seen. It is very informative if you want to include a "Viking" or "Scandanavian" theme to your campaign world.

Al-Qadim Arabian Adventures. Published by TSR, Inc. One of the MANY lost treasures from the breakup of TSR, this is an excellent out-of-print resource. If you want to include a desert campaign with an Arabian-Knights flare, this is the book for you. Gives excellent ideas as well as suggestions on Arabic customs and names.

The Lord of the Rings Weapons and Warfare. Published by Houghton Mifflin Company. With all the hype about the recent LOTR Trilogy, which I loved by the way, I just had to get one of the supplemental art books. This one is one of the best. It was a superb map of Middle Earth on the inside cover and includes both photos from the movies as well as artist concept drawings. Great if you are interested in medieval-style warfare, armor and weaponry.
