The Brimstone Isles are a volcanic chain west of the dwarven realm of Coronar. Chaos and anarchy are the only rules in these hostile territories and the islands are home to numerous pirates, marauders, fire newts and dragons. It is also rumored that a gateway to the Elemental Plane of Fire is hidden somewhere on these isles. The surrounding waters are home to great sea serpents and dragon turtles and are dangerous to all travelers.
The island has a tropical climate year round with very warm to hot temperatures and heavy rainfall throughout much of the year. Moist, warm air blowing in from the Blackfathom Sea will bring a number of troical storms, some of them rather intense, during the late winter and early spring. The smaller isles benefit from this rainfall and are lush with tropical vegetation and rainforests. Feral tribes of elves and beasts call these islands home. Several dark cults dedicated to foul deities are also said to be hidden throughout these islands and some regions are even believed to be haunted by the undead.
Ages ago, these isles were under the grip of the powerful sorceress Shahira of the Burning Hand. This wicked temptress succeeded for a time in bringing the chaotic hordes of the islands under her sway and she dominated the Deeptide Sea attacking any merchant vessels that neared her domain. Legends tell how she met an untimely end at the hands of Drothmog the Executioner, an equally evil dragon noble said to still dwell in the mountains on the largest island. Drothmog has little desire for power or the affairs of humankind but is motivated solely by greed and a fascination with death.
Most of the Brimstone Isles are in a constant state of anarchy but there are small regions controlled by a number of petty lords with some degree of power and authority. Control of these regions generally change hands often and are prime targets for the pirates that sail these southern waters. The Pirate King Khaladon is known to frequent these isles in search of plunder and slaves. The northern most town of Jhoirand is under the control of the trading Empire of Aldimir.
