The land of Bhandari occupies the penisula of the southwestern corner of the Sahelian continent bordered by the Blackfathom Sea and the Coral Sea with the Borderwater River forming the eastern most boundary. The region has long been dominated by the Bhand civilization, a minor tribe of Zentradi known for their strict sense of order and cultural elitism. The land is at an almost constant state of war with the surrounding regions, particularly the Ivory Kingdoms in the east which are dominated by Zentradi tribes with an opposing outlook.
The Bhandarians value law, order and tradion above all things with strict loyalty to the Grand Emir, who is viewed as almost a godlike figure. They likewise condemn all others that differ from their cultural beliefs. The region was once rife with disorder until united under a powerful nobleman that happened to belong to a fanatic order of devil-worshiping monks. This dark secret was kept hidden from the general populace at first until the order could cement its position of power and influence. It quickly grew to dominate and oppress all in the region under the banner of the Grand Emir and set one of its own as ruler of all Bhandari.
The Emirate is run under a strict set of laws, most of which are punishable by death, imprisonment or heavy fines. All citizens are organized in a rigid caste system with monks holding the highest authority. Wizards and clerics form the next position followed by warriors. Commoners fall at the lower end of the caste with just the "untouchables" below them. The warrior caste is widely reverred and receives many perks in society as they form the backbone of the martial network that defends the borders and upholds the word of the Grand Emir. The military, of course, is organized in a very strict hierarchy with all owing ultimate allegiance to the Grand Emir.
Rumors: In addition to having great antipathy for the Ivory Kingdoms, the land of Bhandari is said to have hostility toward the savage elves of the Tanglewood Forest along the northern frontier. Major skirmishes are somewhat common with the elves only able to hold their positions through guerilla tactics. The monks of the central government, under the leadership of the Grand Emir, have been meeting in secret enclaves in the capital city in recent months. The purpose of their meetings is unknown but whispers of a dark and sinister artifact recently unearthed from the Dawnstar Mountains have leaked out to the common populace.
